    Update: September

Read   Malice and Valour by John Gwynne I read Malice for the first time when I received and ARC back in 2012/2013. It was one of the first paper ARCs I ever received and therefor it has always had a special place for me. I waited for all four books to come out to read them all, because I knew this was going to be an extraordinary story. I re-read Malice this month and then went straight on to read Valour. I’m loving it, what a story!   Currently Reading   Ruin by John Gwynne Tempests and Slaughter by Tamora Pierce     Received   Tempests and Slaughter by…

    Update: February

February was another busy month for me: I bought a car (watch out Australia!) and I’ve decided to move house. Unfortunately I have not been able to keep to my ‘one-book-a-week’ resolution, but I’m eager to catch up. Work has finally settled into some form of routine, with less things going wrong which is really good for my stress-levels. This also means I now have a bit of time to explore what I want to add to the blog from now on. Exciting! I’m going to have a look around at interesting memes started on other blogs that I could participate in and I’ll be starting up the weekly Spotlight…

    Update: January

The first month of the new year has already come to an end in what has been a whirlwind 4 short weeks. I think I don’t have to tell you how this month has felt. For a lot of us it feels like the world has started to crash and burn around us. The one main thing that has warmed my heart though is the thousands of people coming together and supporting each other. For all the heartwrenching, scary stuff that’s happening, at least that is a little light in the darkness.   I vowed to read one book a week this year, adding up to 52 books in 2017.…

Update: I Moved To The Other Side Of The World

That’s right! I have now been living in Australia for a week. It still feels a bit surreal and I can’t figure out yet how I feel about it. You may have noticed that the last few months no new reviews or other book-related posts have gone up on the blog. Though I’ve still been reading a lot, I felt I needed to focus on my studies and my friends and family a bit more. In October of 2015 I moved to the UK to start my PhD there and since then my life has been a whirlwind of new experiences. I met an amazing group of friends in Nottingham…

    Update: May

I can’t believe this is the last day of May already… For me, that has brought so many things closer than I thought they were. I’m leaving for Australia in 4 months. 4 months. It feels like I only arrived in the UK just yesterday. The Quidditch World Cup, where I’ll be a referee, will happen in less than 2 months. I will finish my first PhD year in 4 months. Can you slow down a bit now, time? It’s getting a bit scary. Book-wise things are going pretty great though. I’ve read quite a fair amount of books this month, for me at least. I’ve bought a lot of…

    Update: April

It’s been a while since I’ve done an update post, but I thought it was time to start again. I’ve read some great books in the first four months of this year and I have a feeling there will be many more during the rest of the year. These first 4 months have been… strange. 2016 has so far been a strange mix of wonderful and devastating events. Good thing I have my books through all of it. These last few weeks have been crazy as I started the most important experiments of my first PhD year. It all happened a bit early and rather unexpected, so I’ve been running…

    Update: October & November

Finally, some time to do another Update post! I have now officially moved to the UK, at least, for the next 9 months. After that I’m packing up again and moving to Australia for 2 years. My life has never been this crazy before, but I’m loving all the excitement and all the amazing opportunities I’m getting here. Reading has been going a bit slow because of that. I’ve started listening to audiobooks on the bus or while I’m doing routine work, so I don’t have to miss it too much.   Read and Currently Reading Read: ‘Divergent’, ‘Insurgent’ and ‘Allegiant’ by Veronica Roth: I finally watched the Divergent and…

    Update: April – June

It’s been a while since I wrote a post like this. I’ve been busy working on my thesis and the day before yesterday I finally graduated from University here in Belgium! It’s been a long road but I’m so glad I made it to the end. Now I have 3 months of summer to do nothing but travel and read. You have no idea how much I’ve been looking forward to this! So it’s about time I do an update post again to close off the first part of the year and start the summer with a clean slate. Read and Currently Reading I’ve read quite a few books since…

    Update: March

Read and Currently Reading When I received the big tome that is ‘Knight’s Shadow’ by Sebastien de Castell, I couldn’t wait to read it. This month I’ve been working pretty long days, so there wasn’t that much time for reading. Combine that with a 600-page book that I wanted to read at my own leisure and the conclusion is that I haven’t read that many books this month. I have finished ‘Knight’s Shadow’ which, in my opinion, was just as great as the first book in the Greatcoats saga, ‘Traitor’s Blade’. I’m very curious to see what the third book will bring and where it will lead our band of…

    Update – February

This month has gone by WAY too fast. It feels like I just arrived in the UK, but in reality this is the 5th week after I moved here. It’s been insane. I hadn’t expected that my campus was so secluded, so getting around and more importantly, getting food is a major struggle. That said, it’s really nice here. The work I’m doing is fun and the people I work with are fantastic. I’ve also read some really good books this month, which always makes me happy. Read and Currently Reading In all the chaos of adapting to the new environment and the new workplace, I’ve only finished 2 books…
