Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten covers I love

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme created by The Broke and The Bookish. Every Tuesday bloggers list 10 bookish things according to a certain theme. This week we could choose our own topic. After last week, you probably all know that I have a thing for covers. So I thought to make the thing that hijacked my last Top Ten Tuesday as a proper list this time: Top Ten covers I absolutely love. Here we go!

1.The Incorruptibles – John Horner Jacobs

This cover reminds me a lot of my childhood days, when we would colour a whole page in all kinds of colours, then paint over it with black paint and when it had dried, we could scratch drawings in it that would come to life in a myriad of colours. I like that this kind of has the same principle, but obviously with more skill than my childhood scribblings. It looks beautiful in real life to with the black and the gold.

2. The Leopard & The Lady – K.V. Johansen

These two covers are just so damn beautiful. I love the detail and and the use of the colours. They also really fit the story, capturing the feel of it. Next to each other these two look stunning.

3. Gaunt and Bone series – Chris Willrich

These books! Not only are they so much fun to read, but they’re also a treat for the eyes. I have all three of the on my shelf and I can’t get enough of them. Every time a new one came out, I used to sit for a while, just looking at the cover and soaking up every detail. I love Kerem Beyit’s work, you should check it out!

4. The House of Shattered Wings – Aliette de Bodard

I went for this cover because of the colour/dark contrast. I really like that and it has been done stunningly here. The cathedral in the background and the iridescent wings in the front… Perfect!

5. Daughter of Smoke and Bone series – Laini Taylor

I always like the use of different colour accents for every cover in a series, while the rest is more toned-down. That’s why I loved these covers so much. I like the consistency of a featuring a face on the cover, but a little bit different every time. That in combination with the blue-red-yellow accent, makes these some of my favourites.

6. Shadows of the Apt – Adrian Tchaikovsky

Shadows of the Apt has some absolutely amazing covers. I haven’t featured them all here, but you can easily find them online. There are different versions of the books and because one of the books I have is another edition than all the others, my OCD is urging me to buy the right edition, just so they would all fit together. Either way, they are colourful and full of amazing details.

7. The Tiger and The Wolf – Adrian Tchaikovsky

Another cover of an Adrian Tchaikovsky book, this time his new book, which also featured in my previous Top Ten Tuesday list. I’m a big fan of black and gold contrast and this cover is just the perfect representation of that. The beautifully artistic howling wolf, the font and the shininess… I have an e-galley of this book, but I’m definitely buying it too.

8. First Law – Joe Abercrombie

What I love most about the First Law covers is how simple they appear, but how beautiful they still are. That and the texture. I’m particularly a fan of the last book, Sharp Ends, probably because of the blue which is after all my favourite colour.

9. The Dinosaur Lords – Victor Milan

I mean, how can you not like this cover? It’s a beautiful painting of a soldier riding a dinosaur.

10. Fool’s Assassin – Robin Hobb

I recently bought this book and I have similar feelings about the cover as for the First Law books. The texture gives it something extra and though it’s fairly simple, it’s still really beautiful.
