NaNoWriMo 2013

November is the month where twitter is full of #NaNoWriMo tweets and most (aspiring) authors slave away at their computer to get to that 50.000 word mark. I am not one of those people. Mind you, I do participate in NaNoWriMo, but I know beforehand that I’ll never make that golden 50.000. I’m not exactly a writer. That is, I’m not committed to it. I like putting the stories in my head on paper and I usually do that in November during NaNoWriMo, but I’m far to busy with school and this blog to really commit to it throughout the year.

For those of you who don’t know what NaNoWriMo is: it is short for National Novel Writing Month. Here’s the website:Β http://nanowrimo.org. Here you can sign in and start your journey to the 50.000 word mark. Because that’s the goal: write 50.000 words in a month. Doesn’t matter if it’s the beginning of a new novel, the second part of a novel you’ve been working on for ages, or the last words to the completion of your project. The only thing that matters is that you write, together with people from all over the world.

I participated for the first time last year and managed 3.000 words… Hurray for me! Not a big accomplishment, but I’d never written before so it really was something for me. This year I decided to participate again, but I’ve only managed time to write 2 times in the first half of November, which accumulated to som 1.800 words. Not that good. I’ve been super busy with writing a report for my internship that is now currently at 1.800 words aswell and not nearly finished. If I could count that as I novel I would make a lot of progress the coming week. Unfortunately writing a scientific report of 25 pages about Influenza doesn’t make good reading material.

So I plow on. I will eventually get the whole story on paper. Not today. Not this month. Not this year. Probably not for years to come. But it’s there, inside my head and it’s not going anywhere. So I’ll just work on it whenever I find the time and maybe some day I’ll be pleased with what I’ve created and share it. Some day.
